HOMEWORK REVIEW DEBATE:

As promised, this term we begin a homework review. Building on our parent survey, I have started this blog on the new website where parents can share their own thoughts on homework and these can be responded to by other Community members.

I will be moderating comments and there will always be a delay between when you post and when it appears on the website – please allow at least 24 hours before getting too disgruntled!

I am excited to see a conversation develop that will help us to discover the range of arguments both for and against homework and reflect with the evidence at hand.

To start the ball rolling, here is a link to the Education Endowment Trusts meta-analysis of the impact and cost of homework in primary schools: https://educationendowmentfoundation.org.uk/evidence-summaries/teaching-learning-toolkit/homework-primary/

There will be a Parent Voice following this up later in the term.

  1. Please can we not have homework along the lines of ‘find out as much as you can about xxxx’ with then some examples of what to include. This is a very daunting task for some children ( and parents) as how to filter the huge amount of information available into something age appropriate, in enough detail etc is very hard. It also raises the issue that if the child has found out everything about a subject what are they going to be taught in class. I think homework ( if any) should be very specific with a defined boundary.
