At Little Green, we teach and model writing using high quality texts to inspire. We also recognise that children often have excellent outcomes when they are writing for a purpose and this underpins our 'living curriculum'.
What do we mean by purposeful writing? Some ideas have included:
When running for our Student Parliament, our Year 6s crafted their speeches to be persuasive, but also to include elements of school life that they feel passionately about changing or developing.
During their environment topic, our Year 5s wrote letters to local companies, encouraging them to reduce their plastic packaging.
Twice this year, we've taken a book as a whole school topic with excellent outcomes - 'Tuesday' by David Wiesner and 'Coming to England' by Baroness Floella Benjamin.
Our 'Tuesday' learning also included a themed 'Frog Day' and 'Grand Frog Parade' which we all enjoyed!
