Year 5
Year 5
Welcome to Year 5!
We are delighted to be working with your children and look forward to supporting them throughout the year as they continue to grow both academically and personally. By working closely in partnership with parents and carers, we aim to ensure that each child feels confident, supported, and well prepared for the next stage of their learning journey at Little Green, while enjoying a rich and engaging year of learning.
If you have any questions relating to the information on this website, or if you would like to discuss any other matters, please do use the class@littlegreen email account to contact teachers about specific classroom issues. For all other information and requests, contact the school office as normal. We are always happy to arrange a conversation at a mutually convenient time. As outlined in our email guidance, we aim to respond to messages within 3–5 working days.
PE and Games days are as follows:
5R: (Miss Reile) - Tuesday and Thursday
5E (Mrs Mullins) - Wednesday and Thursday
5H (Miss Tarbox) - Wednesday and Thursday
PE : We remind you that children should come to school wearing their PE kit. This is: black shorts, a green 'Little Green' printed PE t-shirt, a school sweatshirt, sports (not fashion) trainers. In addition, during cold/wetter weather, please ensure your child also has plain dark jogging bottoms, a spare sweatshirt and a lightweight waterproof jacket to ensure they can take part in lessons safely.
We must stress however that a pair of old trainers and/or Wellington Boots should be in school every day as we hope to include exciting outdoor curriculum opportunities that require physical activity including the Daily Mile.
Reading books and Library books
Each week, every class has a chance to visit the Library and borrow books. Every child will also have a Year 5 spine book to read at home. These can be changed every day during registration times.
Whatsapp and Social Media
Increasingly we are finding that behaviour on Whatsapp and other online applications is having an impact on learning and well-being in school. Whatsapp, Tik-Tok and other social media are platforms that we as a school simply cannot monitor and as a result we strongly request that you monitor your children’s behaviour when using the apps. The guidance by Whatsapp is that it should not be used by children under the age of thirteen and this is because many children are not emotionally mature enough to use the platform. Each year, we increasingly are finding that children are sending messages late at night to one another and very early in the morning too – some of these messages have been negative in content too. Children should not be part of large ‘class’ or ‘year group’ Whatsapp or 'Messenger' groups. Please reinforce this at home.
